Celebrating Trailblazing Women in HIT

Part II: Kristin Norton, Ph.D.

CEO, Green Room Technologies

At this year’s HIMSS Conference, we’re raising a caffeinated toast to female innovators in health IT as part of the HIT Like a Girl Pod Coffee Networking Event.

Leading up to the event—and in recognition of this year’s International Women’s Day theme, #EmbraceEquity—we’re featuring conversations with some of our favorite women in healthcare. We’ve asked these trailblazers to share insights about the challenges facing healthcare today and the solutions that will define its future.

In Part II of this series, we’re highlighting Kristin Norton, Ph.D., CEO of Green Room Technologies. Green Room leverages extensive experience in healthcare, health technologies, data and interoperability strategies, funding and investment to help clients assess viability and achieve success.

We hope you'll enjoy these conversations and join us at HIMSS for an inspirational morning of connection and inspiration!

Share something interesting about yourself that others may not know.

My love for health technology, including connected medical devices, began with my research in cardiovascular aspects of spaceflight, which in turn started because my Dad is a Rocket Scientist!

What is the most pressing frustration that clinicians have with regard to healthcare technology?

I think physicians are struggling, as always, in meeting regulatory requirements and changing pay structures while serving their patients where they live. And today, with the growing demand for consumer health and environmentally induced requirements for virtual care, that actually means “where they live!"

Within healthcare technology, what do you believe has the most potential to drive meaningful change?

My motto is Commit to Connect, both personally and professionally. The government and industry are requiring person-to-person and system-to-system connectivity. I believe we should all get on board, securely and with consent. Plus, we have to bring innovation closer to the patient at home.

In honor of International Women’s Day 2023 (and this year’s theme of #EmbraceEquity), how can healthcare technology support equity?

At Green Room, we embrace gender, age, and cultural equality. If you Commit to Connect with others, especially those who are different from you, you stand to learn and grow in ways that will help you and those you serve.

If you'll be at HIMSS23, we hope you'll join us to raise a toast to the power of female collaboration on Tuesday at 7:00 AM in partnership with HIT Like A Girl Pod. Learn more and register here.

ICYMI, we kicked off the series with Liane Parker, RN CPHM, Founder & CEO of Quantify Remote Care. Stay tuned for more features every week!
